I wrote a letter for the Action Network letter campaign: Stop HB 1105.
Many elected officials are using the tragic murder of a nursing student to push anti-immigrant legislation, like HB 1105, at the Georgia Capital for political gain. HB 1105 is a draconian bill rooted in anti-immigrant sentiment that would mandate local law enforcement to comply with failed policies and programs like 287(g) and error-prone ICE detainers that will cost counties millions of dollars . HB 1105 in no way promotes public safety.
Instead, HB 1105 will increase racial profiling of our communities and counter the choice of voters who ended the 287(g) program in Cobb and Gwinnett during the 2020 elections due to the harm caused to the economy and the safety of community members, especially our youth.
Send a letter to your elected officials and tell them why they should not support HB 1105.
